The Petri Dish: UNESCO appoints local expert to lead in genetic research on thalassaemia
A LOCAL medical genetics expert has been appointed as UNESCO's first chair in human genetics research on Thalassaemia. Prof Dr Zilfalil Alwi, a senior consultant paediatrician and clinical geneticist from the Human Genome Centre, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), is the appointed expert.

A journal article entitled "Global Globin Network (GGN) Consensus Paper: Classification and Stratified Roadmaps for Improved Thalassaemia Care and Prevention in 32 Countries" has been published in the Journal of Personalized Medicine. This article describes the stratified roadmap established by GGN (formerly known as GG2020), for the improvement of thalassemia care and prevention and is written by members of GGN.
